Palak Pappu

This is a Telugu styled Pappu and goes well with rice and ghee. Healthy and kids love it too.

Ingredients

  • Spinach (Palak) – 1 bunch
  • Toor dal – 3/4 glass
  • Jeera – 1 Tsp
  • Garlic – 6 cloves
  • Green chillies – 8
  • Tumeric
  • Salt
  • Coriander leaves
  • Fried methi seeds – 1 Tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 Tsp
  • Chopped Onion – 2
  • Chopped Tomato – 1

Ingredients for Tadka

  • Ghee – 3 Tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 Tsp
  • Jeera – 1 Tsp
  • Hing
  • Red chillies – 2
  • Curry leaves – 1 strand

Method

Pressure cook all the mentioned ingredients along with enough water on medium flame for 5-6 whistles. The consistency of the dal should be of a paste with everything mashed well.

Mix well and add water to adjust consistency.

Heat up a tadka spoon. Add ghee and allow to heat up a little bit. Now add mustard seeds, jeera, hing, red chilies and hing. Once they sputter, add curry leaves.

Pour the tadka to the cooked dal and mix well.

Enjoy the dal with rice and generous amount of ghee!
